Voiceover script

For some of the trailer we want to use a voice over to portray what the characters are thinking at the time. This section of the trailer is when both girls are waking up and realising that they have swapped bodies. the script for this is:
Aimee: this isn't my room?
Amie: why is my hair so long? oh well
Aimee: they're not my pyjamas? hmmm
Amie: oh my god that's not my body

We created the voice over by filming Aimee and Amie reading the script. which we then edited by removing the video and keeping the audio which allowed us to move the audio so that can be heared above the right part of the film.

Evaluation
When adding the voice over to some of the trailer it allowed the story line to be clearly shown. When editing we had to make sure the voice over fit with the film. For example when Amie shrugged we had to link it with "oh well". Furthermore after hearing some of the background sound from the film and the  voice over it did not work properly so we removed the background noise. When the music is added this will not be obvious.

Text

For the text in the trailer we decide to create a moving text so it is formed of pictures of the letters. When we first decided to do this I was a bit worried I thought it would not look effective, take too much time in the trailer and would take a lot of time to produce. However I was wrong after editing the images it does not take too much time in the trailer and does look very effective.  From creating the text this way it is very unique as each letter is a different font which makes the text look interesting furthermore by having a pink background it fits with the target audience as it is pink which is stereotypical girl colour and it also makes the text stand out. Text created this way is stereotypical for a indie type theme which we have include in the poster and magazine. This means that the theme is consistent throughout so it portrays to the same target audience through out.

The process of creating the text is that from the website 1001 free fonts we created the letters using different style fonts for each letter. We then printed the letters and cut out each one independently, we decided to cut them into squares, as we this would make the text look consistent throughout and also this would save us time as it is more time consuming to cut around each letter. We then took pictures of each letter by adding one letter each time until we created the whole word or phrase. We then opened the images in final cut where we edited them so that each photo was shown for only a small amount of time. We then put the letters together to form the phrase then edited fast pace cuts from each letter to create a fluent film of the different letters appearing.

Filming Schedule

The filming schedule has changed because of weather problems such as snow and some of the group have been ill when we had scheduled to film. So we have had to reschedule filming sessions to film sections of the trailer we have not done yet.
While waiting to reschedule the filming we have been editing the filming we have already achieved. By cutting down the filming so that it was the right length and include the part of the filming we wanted. We have also added effects to some of the filming which was slow motion we did this to create comedy and when matched with music it looks very effective.
We have also been able to start to create the music for the trailer on Garage Band by using different music instruments to create a upbeat song that fits with the theme of the trailer. Furthermore we have also been very careful with the volume of the music by changing the volume depending what is happening in the trailer such as dialogue. So the volume is going up and down throughout the trailer.

Makeup

The video shows the makeup we are going to use on Amie to portray the character. As the girl Amie  is portraying is a popular girl the character would wear a high amount of makeup as she will care about her appearance. So we are using lots of different types of makeup and fake eye lashes which a girl of this age would use. This tells the audience not just that she cares about her appearance it also shows her personality which is that she likes to go out and, hang around with boys and get into trouble. Furthermore it shows that she spends more time on her makeup than on doing her school work. Whereas Aimee's character wears a little makeup which is mascara and blusher, this shows that she cares less about her appearance and putting on makeup and concentrates more on her school work.

The filming schedule above is a rough idea of dates when we will be filming, location and the scenes that we will be filming. This will help us make sure that they are in the right costume and we have the props we need to film for the screens. Also by creating this plan it allows us to decide when we are not filming so we can start editing and downloading the filming we have already achieved. This will allow us to make decisions about if we need shots to be re- filmed instead of leaving it until all the filming is done.

Animatic Story Board

We have created an animatic storyboard which includes all our shot ideas from the storyboards. We have also created a voice over to explain what is happening in each shot and what type of shot it is.
The animatic will be a benefit to the group when filming as it will tell the order of the shots and when the text is going to be used in the trailer. It will also tell the group what editing is being used, the pace of the shots and when split screens are going to be used in the trailer.
The digital technology has helped us to create the animatic storyboard as we have used final cut program on the apple mac to create the film. Furthermore it allowed us to practise using the software again as it reminded me of how to do the basic editing. We also referred to our research as we looked at the stereotypical order of a trailer like when text is to be shown and how the pace of the shots changes through the trailer.

setting and risk assesments

Locations
Amie’s house, Maxine’s house, school
We decided the different locations which would be most suitable for the trailer. We have decided to use the school, it will be a frequent setting in the film and trailer as it shows the age of the characters clearly and gives the right impression of the theme of the film. It also tells the target audience of the film which are teenagers and young adults which they could compare themselves to. We also decided what houses were best to film in and we decided Maxine and Amie's as they were the closest location which everyone in the group could easily get to. Other reasons was the décor of the room as it had to fit the character of the girls for example the popular girl we chose Amie's bedroom as it has grown up colours and has the right props present for this part in the trailer.

Risk assessments and filming permissions
No risk assessments and we have asked the permission of the house owners
The locations we have decided to use do not have any risk assessments but we did ask for permission to film in the houses to check that the owners did not mind us filming. They all agreed it was fine to film.
Asked house owners permission to film in their house and asked the teachers to lend cameras out for filming.

Roles of the group
Filming: Rebecca, Maxine, Amie and Aimee
Editing: Rebecca, Maxine, Amie and Aimee
Actors: Amie, Aimee, Alex and background people (undecided)
We decided that everyone in the group wanted to try filming and editing so that we can all have a go at the techniques needed for this. We also decided what actors are going to be in the trailer and the role they will play.

Prop list
Alarm clock (Rebecca and Amie)
School equipment e.g. books, lab equipment, test paper
Laptops x2

Costume

We chose Amie to be the popular girl as she looks more edgy and like a bully whereas Aimee is more reserved, as she is less confident. We have chosen Amie to be the popular girl as her hair cut is more edgy as it is short. Whereas Aimee has long hair in a ponytail, which fits the character of a normal/ geeky girl.
Also when applying makeup we thought about the character for Amie and we used lots of makeup to fit with the stereotype of a popular girl. Whereas on Aimee we only used a small amount of makeup, to fit with the character.

The poem/ script

The poem
Two different girls who don’t get along
Swapping bodies, what could go wrong?
One is good and one is bad
One loves her work and one loves her lad
They need to see what they should do
To put their foot back in their own shoe
Who knows if they will ever change back?
Lets hope they don’t have a heart attack

We have created a poem which both characters will read which will cause them to swap bodies. This is typical of this type of film we decided a poem was best as we wanted it to appear on to the computer like a virus. We are hoping for this to appear in the trailer as a split screen to show both characters reading the poem. This is so that the audience can see it is happening to both girls and there opinion of what they are reading.
Evaluation
I think that the poem portrays the plot of the film effectively as it includes the different characters of the girls and why they are swapping bodies. The reason that they are swapping bodies is because they don't get along so to see that they are not different they must see each others lives from their own perspective. Also it is lighthearted which gives the impression that the swap is not an evil act which we wanted to portray. It also gives the impression that the film is fantasy and a bit of fun which is not to be taken seriously.
Script

Amie: sigh whatever!
Aimee: X=2475.952
Both: What?!

POEM

Aimee: ew!
Aimee: what have you done to me!
Jess’ friends: Hi, you alright
                          you look nice     etc
Aimee: That boy is totally eye hogging you
Amie: Do I want to be eye hogged?
Aimee and friends: yeeeeah
This is the dialogue that we have created as a rough idea of what should be said during the trailer. There is going be only a small amount of dialogue and therefore there will be music to portray the different moods throughout the trailer. Furthermore the script may also change as we are filming as we may change parts or add new dialogue, but by planning it has allowed us to have an idea what needs to be said and when.

Storyboard

We have created the storyboard as it allowed us to plan out the trailer as it allowed us to think about what we wanted to shown in the trailer, the different shots, text and the order of the trailer. Creating the storyboard was helpful as it allowed us to finalise the storyline and what characters were needed in the trailer. The storyboard will also be important during filming as it allows the group to see what needs to be filmed, who is in the scene and what must be shown in the shot in a clear table.

New line cinema

We chose the company New Line cinema to market and distribute the film trailer as they have produced similar films to ours that are appealing to a similar target audience. Films such as 17 Again, Hairspray and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. These films are suitable for the target audience as they are for young females who are teenagers and young women. Also the theme of the films is similar to our film idea especially 17 Again  which is about a guy who wishes he could go back to high school to redo his life and one day he wakes up aged 17. This film is similar to our film idea as it is a fantasy theme film which involves magic and that from the situation it changes there life.

Media technology used in research

We used a range of different software and hardware to help us during research which are shown above in the spider diagram.

Google: We used Google to research example magazine and poster examples, this allowed us to see the conventions and the layouts. It also gave us inspiration for our own designs as we could see what colours, fonts, pictures and layouts worked well and which didn't. Google also allowed us to research different market and distribution companies to see which one most fit with our genre and target audience.
Final cut: We used this in research to try out different editing techniques which could be used in the trailer as we tried split screens and different effects like earthquake which could be used when they swap bodies. This allowed us to practise techniques and see what might be suitable to be used in the trailer.
Garage band: We used this to research different sounds that could be used to create the music for the trailer. It also allowed us to look at different sound effects that could be used in the trailer like door bells and an alarm clock. The reason we did this is that now we know what type of sounds we want to use so it will make it quicker and easier to create the music instead of having to keep searching for the different sounds. It also allowed us to see what was available for us to use and to practise how to use the software.
You Tube: We used You Tube during research to look at different trailers. This allowed us to see the conventions of the trailers like how long they are, what text information has to be shown and how much plot of the film can be shown. It also gave us inspiration for the storyline of our film and the type of trailer we wanted to create. This was an important part of our research that we did as a group.
Photo booth software on the apple mac: The photo booth software on the apple mac during research allowed us to record important decisions so that we could listen to conversations again so that we could remember decisions we made in the last lessons. This saved us time as we did not need to make as many notes while talking.
Camera: The camera let us take pictures of potential costumes and settings which we could use for filming and pictures for the poster and magazine. Furthermore it allowed us to try out different shots and positions that could be used for the poster and magazine. So we could see what worked effectively and what locations were most appropriate as some locations we tried did not have the right lighting or backdrop. It also gave us more options when picking which images and locations was best as we had pictures which we could look at and evaluate so we could be critical on the choices we made.

Title and Billing block evaluation

Title

When evaluating the title we asked the target audience what they thought of the title of the film. They said they liked how it was short and simple, this is what we wanted to portray so that it went with the feel of the film which will be a light hearted film. However some people did find it confusing as when they think of Mix Up they don't necessary think of this type of plot however when it is put in the right context on the poster they understood the meaning of it.

Font
I like the colour we have used for the text as it is eye catching which will promote the film effectively. Furthermore even though the background behind the text is busy as it is a brick wall the text still stands out, which means we have selected the right type of font. We used a wide graffiti type design for it to stand out, but also because it fits with the target audience as it is stereotypical of the age range of our film. Also the cartoon look to the text also fits well with the drawn cartoons that are around the poster. The black outline around the outside of the letters makes the colour of the text stand out and makes the text clearer from a distance.

Billing block
We made our own billing block so that the correct information will be shown to make the poster more realistic. When evaluating the billing block I like the text design and the colour we used on the poster which is white as it stands out and is stereotypical of a billing block. The layout of the billing block is stereotypical of a real billing board on a poster. However in evaluation I would make the New Line cinema more centralised to make it look more appealing. I would have also changed some of the names to make it more realistic as I would have one or two names after editing and produces instead of four names as it is not very conventional. These changes I will suggest to the group to be changed.

target audience research

Our target audience is teenage girls and young women who like chick flicks. As our film will resemble a conventional teenage comedy and fantasy because there will be romance, fantasy and light hearted comedy. When asking the target audience they believe that this is what makes a good chick flick film. We asked a target audience what they wanted in film and they said:
  • Upbeat
  • Big plot lines
  • Something that the audience can relate to either the plot or the characters
  • Likeable characters
  • A feel good film with a happy ending
  • Fantasy
From what the target audience said we believe that our film idea fits the target audience as we have a big plot line which will go on throughout the theme and at the end of the film there will be a happy ending. Also part of the film is fantasy as the two girls swap bodies which would not happen in real life this also creates a mystery as they don't know what type of magic it is which creates a plot line.
The characters and settings can easily be related to the age range of the target audience as they will be familiar to everyone. Furthermore parts of the plot will also be familiar to the audience as they will be able to relate to love and friendship which will be a consistent plot through out the film.

Changed magazine

We have re-edited the image for the magazine cover as the original had an embellishment on the jumper and around Amie's head (picture on the right). The white mark around the head was caused by the editing which was done to the head as it was not back in the exact correct position causing the white background to be shown. We corrected the image by finding the original and re-editing the picture. I tried a different process of editing the image so that she was in front of the text instead of just going round the head I cut around the whole of the body. This meant it was easier to put the body back in to the correct place furthermore it also made it easier to cover up any embellishments as I used a smudge tool around the edge to cover up any white marks.

Evaluation
By making these changes it has made the magazine more professional and of higher quality, as now Amie looks more natural. The white mark created an impression that she had been decapitated or that she was not a real person. However with the new editing it has made it difficult to see that editing has occurred which we wanted to create.
