I think that a theory that can be linked to the trailer is 'uses and gratifications' as the audience can take what they want to believe and forget other parts. From the film the audience can take information on how they should lead their lives like how you should treat other people and how people should balance their lives between having fun and working hard. However you can forget some parts of the film which is not useful like the fantasy storyline as it is not realistic.
Another theory is Todorov as the narrative structure has a pattern of equilibrium as at the beginning of the narrative everything is at equilibrium as both characters lives a normal and stable. Then there is disequilibrium as they change bodies which is a problem as they can't go about their normal lives. However at the end they reach new equilibrium as when they change back their lives are altered as they are better people from the experience.
The theory that could be applied to the characters is Strauss binary opposites. As the two main characters have opposite personalities as Jess is the popular girl who drinks, socialises and gets poor grades. Whereas Eden is a normal girl/geek who is smart, gets good grades and is a loner. Furthermore other opposites in the trailer are good and bad as Jess is shown as being bad as she bullies Eden who is shown as being good.
